The Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) issued the Overseas Compatriot Card for the first time during the National holidays in October, 2017 with the aim of encouraging overseas compatriots to return to Taiwan for tourism and to stimulate domestic business opportunities.
Domestic businesses have been invited to become Overseas Compatriot Card authorized stores. Holders of the Card can enjoy a discount on purchases at the authorized stores or special price for self-paid health examinations at many medical institutions. The Overseas Compatriot Card can only be used by the holder for the purpose of making purchases. It cannot be used as ID card and it does not have credit card or deposit money functions. At present, there are more than 2000 authorized stores in Taiwan.
